GROWING OUR CULTURE

Since 2016, we’ve been continuously nurturing and growing our company culture, establishing a trajectory that guides us and propels us forward. To represent and celebrate this growth, we’ve introduced a new looka refresh to help us maintain our forward momentum and vision as we continue growing, adapting, and evolving.

CULTURE TREE

Our Culture Tree represents our culture and embodies our ‘values, why, and hows’ in a single cohesive concept.

  • Our roots—the foundation of our culture—are our values. These are the principles that anchor our culture, guiding and producing our best results and best days. Our values are enveloped by a heart representing all of our heartcounts, our people.
  • Our trunk—the pillar of our culture—is our why statement. This statement expresses why we come to work every day and defines our purpose. Our trunk, like our purpose, is strong, certain, and unwavering, helping to keep us firmly set on a steady and meaningful path.
  • Our branches—the expression of our culture—represent our hows. These are the tools we use to navigate change, challenges, new seasons, and also during times of celebration. Like branches, our company naturally changes, grows, and moves in different directions.

Our Culture Tree is a representation of our forward vision and growth, rooted in and expressed by the principles of our culture that guide our decisions and actions as ambassadors of Martin Engineering.

Overview

Why

Our Why statement is at the core of all Martin Engineering values. Our culture is formed around this and needs to be present in each individual for the system to thrive. The motivations must come from inside each individual but will be directed outward for better communication and interaction. When these goals are achieved, positive results are felt throughout the community.
  • "To Ignite Excellence so that Families Thrive and Communities Flourish"

How

Living up to our Why statement requires guidance and benchmarks to ensure the overall goal is achieved every day. While some of the components are inherent and easy to employ, others require daily self-reminders. Overall, every component and approach will contribute to the overall Martin Culture and help us be better together.

What

These are the tools utilized in order to fulfill our purpose and live up to our Why statement. By following these methods we better ourselves and are able to better communities around us both near and far.

Transform Opportunity into Action
Convert our great ideas into a reality, which is the foundation of our company. Continue to question why things are done the way they are and don't be afraid to challenge the status quo and drive change.

Assume Positive Intent
Choose to assume that our coworkers are operating to the best of their ability, and are acting with the best interest of the company and their colleagues in mind.

Listen to Understand
Truly listen to others without being distracted by your own chatter. The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand, we listen to reply.

Laugh Often
Laughter is never lost in translation, it reinforces that we are Martin family.

Embrace the Challenges
You can't learn from mistakes you don't make. You can help that we don't repeat the mistake by speaking up to create the opportunity for everyone to learn from your experience...sometimes the lesson learned is greater from what you do wrong than what you do right.

We are Better Together
Break down silos between buildings, divisions, and time zones as we are one Martin family and we could never be as good alone as we are together.

Continuous Improvement

At Martin Engineering we are always looking to find the best and most efficient ways to do business. This involves analyzing each and every process that goes on within the company and optimizing the series of steps that achieve the overall goal. By improving every step of the process, the company as a whole can run more quickly with fewer hangups. While initially, it may seem like this method works only for manufacturing practices, it can also be implemented in the ways of communication and relationship building. Through continuous improvement, we can be our best selves.

Plan

Understand that Martin strives to achieve the highest level of quality and try to determine a change that will act as an improvement to the current process. This is the stage where a new method will be tested and the results are analyzed in a theoretical capacity. It is the goal of this step to predict the outcome and have the results match the prediction.

Do

Small-scale testing begins and variables are tested. Clear documentation during every step is crucial to process improvement. Use the changing of variables against the control to interpret the data and determine why the output was improved by the enacted changes.

Check

Actual outcomes are compared to theoretical predictions. The expectation is that these two results will match up. During this step, we are able to answer the questions not only "Did it work?" but also "Why did it work?"

Act

Now that the change has been determined to be an improvement, it will be implemented. The change will continue to be monitored over time to measure its effectiveness and will be used in all applicable departments.

Community Outreach

Embracing a positive culture and, in turn, positively affecting others

At Martin Engineering, we are committed to strengthening the communities in which we operate and making them better places to live and work. In fact, we see it as part of our corporate responsibility. For example, we encourage our employees to be involved in the community as part of the culture of volunteerism. As a result, Martin employees donate many hours of volunteer time to organizations such as Race for the Cure, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Adopt-A-Highway, and Junior Achievement.

Furthermore, we strive to maintain the highest ethical standards and create a culture that values honesty, integrity, and transparency. As a company committed to product safety and customer service, we are driven by what is right for our customers, and our employees, and the protection of rights of the workers who manufacture our products.
